Interesting Tonsilloliths Laser Resurfacing Information:
Tonsilloliths, or tonsil stones, are tiny pieces of calcareous matter that build in the crevasses of the tonsils. Find out about it here.
In certain regular people little, hard, calcareous lumps, which are white-colored in color, occur in the crevasses of the tonsils, also referred to as tonsillar crypts. These lumps, known as tonsilloliths, or calculus of the tonsil, or tonsil stones, can range in size from tiny little bits to pea sized ones and they have a tendency of staying lodged in the region of the tonsils for a period of time, until they are dislodged finally. They're usually accompanied by a foul smell emanating from the tonsils, and a person suffering from tonsilloliths encounters an actual sensation of something being stuck in the back part of the throat.
Everyday solutions and practices for extracting tonsil stones:
One way is to use a stainless long handled spoon 7.5 inches. You would have to press the stone out from underneath. This process works easier when the stone is older and harder. You can even use tweezers to pluck the stone out. The use of pulsating irrigation to clear out the crypts of accumulated debris may also help (using an adjustable unit on the low pressure setting or a needleless Monoject syringe to prevent damaging tissue.) Alternately medicine droppers (especially one with a curved tip) are utilized to suck out the less massive stones. Using such a medicine dropper to first irrigate the area with saline which may help to bring the tonsil stone to the surface from which it can then be more easily sucked out with the dropper. To relieve gagging people occasionally consider using everyday objects, such as toothpicks, as small tools instead of using a much larger finger. This isn't suggested due to the danger of the short light-weight toothpick/object being released and breathed into the throat. Use care when trying any of the methods in the list above. The tonsils and throat are very sensitive, and can be injured or inflammed very easily.
The first time I ever had tonsil-stones, I coughed up some weird looking lumps that were off white in color. The only real facts I knew about them at the time was that they were terrible smelling, and this fact came to light when I squished them between my fingers. I also had no clue as to where they came from.
They would come and go, appear and disappear at all the worst times you could think of. My first trip to my doctor to actually ask him about them got me a vague answer about some sort of throat infection and a dose of antibiotics which didn't get rid of squat! I swear I made 5 different visits and was put on three different prescriptions none of which did a bit of good.
