Facts & Helpful Tonsil Stone Or Pimple Information:
Tonsilloliths, or tonsil stones, are very little bits of calcareous matter that occur in the crevasses of the tonsils. Read more about it here.
In certain people young and old very little, hard, calcareous lumps, which can be white in color, occur in the crevasses of the tonsils, also referred to as tonsillar crypts. These lumps, named tonsilloliths, or calculus of the tonsil, or tonsil stones, can range in size from tiny little bits to pea sized ones and they have a tendency of remaining lodged in the region of the tonsils for some time, until they're dislodged finally. They normally are accompanied by a bad smell emanating from the tonsils, and a person afflicted with tonsilloliths deals with an actual sensation of something being stuck in the back part of the throat.
Widely used tactics and practices for clearing away tonsil stones:
One method is to use a metal long handled spoon 7.5 inches. You would have to force the stone out from below. This process works easier when the stone is older and harder. Additionally you can use tweezers to pluck the stone out. The use of pulsating irrigation to clear out the crypts of accumulated debris may also help (using an adjustable unit over a low pressure setting or a needleless Monoject syringe and avoid damaging tissue.) Alternately medicine droppers (especially one with a curved tip) are utilized to suck out the smaller sized stones. Using such a medicine dropper to first irrigate the area with saline which may help to bring the tonsil stone to the surface from which it can then be more easily sucked out with the dropper. To relieve gagging people oftentimes consider using everyday objects, for example toothpicks, as small tools instead of using a much bigger finger. It's not recommended due to the danger of the short light-weight toothpick/object being released and breathed into the throat. Use extreme care when trying any of the methods as listed above. The tonsils and throat are extremely sensitive, and can be damaged or agitated quite easily.
The first time I ever had tonsil-stones, I coughed up some weird looking lumps that were off white in color. The only real facts I knew about them at the time was that they were terrible smelling, and this fact came to light when I squished them between my fingers. I also had no clue as to where they came from.
Of course, I was too scared to talk to my doctor or dentist, and I knew better than to ask my friends what they thought it might be. Sometimes I wondered if I was the only person who had this horrible problem. It took me many years before I discovered what the little lumps were, and what caused them. Perhaps you have had a similar problem and can relate.
